He drove the wrong way into oncoming cars. Tacoma man arrested for vehicular assault
A 27-year-old Tacoma man drove the wrong way on Interstate 405 in Renton Saturday morning and caused a three-car collision, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The wrong-way driver and another driver were both injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The driver was arrested for vehicular assault.
The WSP said the Tacoma man was driving a 2024 Toyota RAV4 northbound in the southbound lanes on I-405 at NE 44th Street around 4 a.m. when he crashed into a 2023 Honda CRV driven by a 48-year-old Woodinville man.
The Tacoma man was trapped in his vehicle after the crash.
Another southbound vehicle’s driver swerved to avoid the crash but was hit by the Tacoma man’s rotating vehicle. He was uninjured.
The road was blocked for two hours and 41 minutes, the WSP said. The Toyota and Honda were both totaled.
“There is definitely suspected impairment,” WSP Trooper Rick Johnson.
