Driver owing $20K in outstanding traffic fines arrested

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says a woman taken into custody in St. John's Tuesday night assaulted an officer at the lockup.

Police responded to a report of an intoxicated woman on Harbour Drive, near The Keg restaurant, around 9 p.m.

The 20-year-old woman was arrested at the time for breaches of court orders.

Officers transported the woman to the lockup to appear in court Wednesday morning.

However, when she arrived at the lockup she allegedly assaulted the correctional officer.

The woman is now facing two additional charges of assaulting a peace officer.
