Duchess Kate tried on a trend loved by Scandinavian royals

When Duchess Kate stepped out for her close friend Sophie Carter's wedding, she was wearing an outfit fans had seen before - the pretty, cornflower blue Catherine Walker coat dress she donned during the Cambridge family's tour of Poland and Berlin. But she paired the ensemble with a stylish new accessory: an oversized floral crown! And it seems she's been taking inspiration from some of her fellow royals in Scandinavia.

Kate's bold, blue topper by Juliette Botterill, a new favourite milliner among royals like Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall, features three large roses on a slim headband and retails for $730. While the 36-year-old generally favours hats and fascinators over floral headbands, she's been turning to blooming headpieces of late - also opting for a cream Jane Taylor headband embellished with flowers for Prince Louis' christening in July.

The style is one long favoured by royal women in Scandinavia, from Princess Madeleine of Sweden to Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. Madeleine wore an intricate headband woven with real flowers in pink and orange hues and green foliage for her daughter Princess Adrienne's christening on June 8, 2018. She paired the headpiece with a pretty floral-printed dress featuring similar hues.

Norway's future queen, who spent time with William and Kate during their Scandinavian tour earlier this year, also slipped on a halo of fresh blooms while celebrating King Harald and Queen Sonja's 25th anniversary on the throne in June 2016. In fact, all of the women in the family wore the colourful blooms on their heads. Mette-Marit wore her crown with a pale blue long-sleeved eyelet dress that featured scalloping at the neck and sleeves.

Kate has been on maternity leave since March, taking some time with her children - Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and five-month-old Prince Louis - before returning to royal duties in October. We're excited to see what Kate wears next!
