Durham police identify 18-year-old found fatally shot Sunday; 2nd man injured

Durham police on Monday identified a man who was fatally shot Sunday as 18-year-old Devondra Mack of Durham.

Two people, including Mack, were found shot just after 1 a.m in the area of North Roxboro Street and West Club Boulevard.

The second person who was shot, another adult male, was taken to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services with non-life-threatening injuries. His name was not released.

Police have released no other information.

What Durham shooting statistics show

The number of people shot in Durham is up this year compared to the previous two years, the Police Department’s crime statistics show.

  • As of Aug. 3, 140 people had been shot in the city, 21 of them fatally.

  • There were 119 people shot (23 fatal) by the same time in 2023 and 139 people shot (22 fatal) by the same time in 2022.

  • Twenty of the 140 people shot this year, or 14%, were 18 to 20 years old..
