Durham stabbing kills man, injures woman

Durham police are investigating a homicide after two people were stabbed early Friday morning.

According to a news release, police were called to Maryland Avenue just before 1 a.m. The stabbing occurred inside Westover Park, police said.

A male victim died from his injuries at a local hospital, while a female victim was treated by Emergency Medical Services for non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Investigators said the stabbing was an isolated incident. The male victim’s name has not been released, but police said he was 62.

As of Sept. 7, there had been 26 criminal homicides reported in Durham this year, compared to 31 and 27 homicides reported by the same time in each of the previous two years, according to police statistics.
