Dustin Poirier to challenge Charles Oliveira for lightweight title at UFC 269

Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier will meet this December in a lightweight title matchup.

The UFC has booked champion Oliveira (31-8 MMA, 19-8 UFC) against Poirier (28-6 MMA, 21-6 UFC) at UFC 269 on Dec. 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card will stream on ESPN+ pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.

The fight will be Oliveira’s first title defense since he won the vacant belt at UFC 262 in May. After a difficult opening round, Oliveira finished Chandler with strikes 19 seconds into Round 2 to claim gold. The victory extended his winning streak to nine, with eight finishes in that stretch.

As for Poirier, he rides a three-fight winning streak that includes back-to-back TKO wins against Conor McGregor and a unanimous decision over Dan Hooker into the matchup. The fight marks Poirier’s second UFC undisputed title challenge.

Poirier won an interim title fight in April 2019 at UFC 236. However, in the title unification that followed at UFC 242, Poirier was submitted by then-UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The lightweight title won’t be the only championship on the line at UFC 269. Women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes also defends her title against challenger Julianna Pena, while flyweight champ Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo will square off in a trilogy.

With the addition, the UFC 269 lineup includes:
