Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Endorses Joe Biden and ‘Certified Badass’ Kamala Harris

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has officially thrown his support behind Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

As we move toward the 2020 presidential election, we can expect a lot of celebrity endorsements. Everyone from Chrissy Teigen to Cardi B have already announced their picks, but the Fast & Furious actor has never publicly endorsed a presidential candidate—at least, until now.

On Sunday, September 27, he made it clear he wants Biden and Harris to serve as America’s next leaders. “As a political independent & centrist, I’ve voted for both parties in the past. In this critical presidential election, I’m endorsing @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris,” he tweeted. “Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, KINDNESS & RESPECT.

“We must ALL VOTE,” Johnson added.

“I have never publicly endorsed a presidential candidate or vice presidential candidate in my life, over my career,” the actor said in an accompanying video, which included a virtual Q&A with Harris and Biden.

“You guys are both obviously experienced to lead. You’ve done great things. Joe, you’ve had such an incredible career. You’ve led, in my opinion, with great compassion, and heart, and drive, but also soul,” he continued, per People. “You and I talked about that in the past and how important soul is.”

Johnson later praised Harris, first describing the potential future vice president as “smart and tough,” adding, “In my opinion, you are a certified badass.”

During their conversation, The Rock also asked the politicians how they intend to earn the American people’s respect. “By doing what we say we’re going to do. By keeping our word,” Biden responded. “By leveling with the American people. By taking responsibility. When we fail, acknowledge it. We’re not going to be perfect, but take responsibility.”

Harris, for her part, said that there is no trust if there is no truth. “You give and you receive trust. And one of the foundations of trust is truth,“ she explained. ”You must speak truth, but here’s the reality: Truth can sometimes be really difficult to hear, and for that reason sometimes people don’t speak it. But you cannot have trust if you don't speak truth.”
