Dwayne Johnson has announced the actors who will play his younger self in a new series that tells his life story.

Produced by NBC, Young Rock will chart the former WWE star’s childhood from growing up surrounded by a professional wrestling family, to playing football at the University of Miami. The show, which Johnson describes as ‘a series based on my wild and unpredictable childhood and formative years growing up’, is currently in production and it set to air in 2021.

The Rock shared the casting announcements on his Instagram page, revealing that Bradley Constant will play him aged 15 ‘clearly kicking puberty’s ass’.

Constant recently shared a selfie in which he sports a moustache, looking the spitting image of Johnson at the same age.

Alien: Covenant star Uli Latukefu will play the 18-20 year old Rock while he was playing college football for the University of Miami.

“These years were some of my most defining,” Johnson explained on Instagram. “The highs are incredible, but the lows were critical. 275lbs of upper body violence, attitude and clearly eating too much pizza.”

Johnson was born in 1972 to Ata Johnson (née Maivia, whose father was also a wrestler) and professional wrestler Rocky Johnson, and was briefly raised in New Zealand where he played rugby. On his return to America, he moved around a number of different schools, and had been arrested multiple times before the age of 17.

As a teenager he began bodybuilding and took part in a lot of team sports, and joined the University of Miami on a football scholarship, playing for the Miami Hurricanes. After he graduated, he signed for the Calgary Stampeders, but was cut from the practice roster just two months into the season.

Also joining the Young Rock cast are are Stacey Leilua as Ata Johnson, Joseph Lee Anderson as Dwayne’s father, and Ana Tuisila as Lia Maivia, Dwayne’s grandmother who he says was “pro wrestling’s first women’s promoter. She HAD TO BE tough as nails in a male dominated, shark infested world of wrestling.”
