This is the heartbreaking moment a dying war veteran got his final wish of one last goodbye to his beloved horses before he passed away.

Roberto Gonzales, who was paralysed after being shot in the Vietnam War, was granted his dying wish by staff at the Audie L Murphy VA Hospital in Texas,

Gonzales, who is now suffering from organ failure, has been training and raising horses for 40 years with wife Rosario and wanted to see his two favourites, Sugar and Ringo for one last time.

The animals were transported 150 miles to the hospital where the touching moment was captured on camera on May 21 - the anniversary of when he was shot.

Rosario revealed to News 4 San Antonio: “When the horse came up to him he actually opened his eyes.

“They came up to him and I think they were actually kissing him.”

The hospital has so far not commented on Roberto’s current condition.
