E. coli beef recall expands to Extra Foods

Beef sold at Extra Foods and Real Canadian Superstores in N.W.T. and Yukon has been added to the ongoing recall of meat potentially contaminated with E. coli.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced the expanded recall late Monday night. It includes fresh beef products such as roasts and steaks with best before dates between Sept. 6 and Oct. 2.

Fresh beef products sold at Northern stores in Nunavut and the N.W.T., and at Co-op stores in Yukon and the N.W.T. were added to the recall earlier this week.

For a complete list of the products involved, visit the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's website.

If you suspect you have purchased some of the recalled meat, check with your local retailer for a return, or throw it out.

So far, nine people in Alberta have become ill from E.coli. Four of the illnesses have been connected to the recalled meat.
