E. coli prompts recall from P.E.I. shellfish company

Five Star Shellfish Inc. is recalling its Malpeque brand of large standard oysters because of E. coli contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the oysters were distributed to retailers on P.E.I. They were shipped on Aug. 15.

The recall notice does not include information about how the contamination was discovered, or whether anyone has been made ill by the oysters.

E. coli symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and occasionally fever. These symptoms usually appear three to four days after infection.
