Early-morning Water Street stabbing under investigation

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating a stabbing in downtown St. John's early Sunday that sent a man to hospital for treatment.

Police said they received a report of a stabbing around 2:55 a.m.

The incident happened in the Water Street area, the RNC said.

A man who was assaulted in the incident was taken to hospital, although police said his life is not at risk.

No arrests have yet been made.

The RNC said its major crime unit was handling the case, and that further details would be made available as the investigation progressed.
