When will eastbound lanes of I-10 close overnight near the MS Buc-ee’s site?
All eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 will be closed overnight Wednesday to remove the final section of a bridge overpass to make room for Mississippi’s first Buc-ee’s travel center.
The lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Aug. 30, Mississippi Department of Transportation announced Friday.
The closure is at at exit 24 of I-10 and eastbound traffic will be re-routed using the Menge Avenue exit and entrance ramps. This detour will be single-lane traffic.
MDOT said in a press release the timing of the closure of I-10 is dependent on construction progress, availability of materials and weather conditions., with a tropical system expected to be in the Gulf but heading to Florida.
The westbound lanes previously were closed so the beams over that section of interstate could be removed. The interchange rebuild is funded by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors and Buc-ee’s, which will break ground next month on a travel center near the exit.
The project includes replacing the Menge Avenue bridge over I-10, widening the entrance and exit ramps and widening Firetower Road. Construction began July 5 and is expected to be completed in approximately 18 months.
