There’s a tense instalment of EastEnders on the way tonight, as the BBC soap — which airs tonight at 7.30pm — returns to the scene of a shocking car crash for Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks).
Viewers have seen Janine cause an endless amount of trouble for Linda in recent months, as the twisted character aimed to cut the latter out of Mick Carter’s (Danny Dyer) life. Janine is currently in a relationship with Linda’s estranged husband, but feels threatened by the bond that continues to exist between them.
Janine therefore tried to pay off a vulnerable Linda when she was at a low ebb, ordering her to leave Walford forever. Linda eventually decided to stick around, but kept hold of the cash.
Unfortunately, she later discovered that the money Janine gave her belonged to Mick and Linda’s daughter Nancy (Maddy Hill) after Janine pulled off a ruthless con. This week, Linda vowed to tell Nancy the truth, so the mother and daughter set off on a trip together.
When Nancy learned that her mum had been planning to flee, though, she abandoned her; and Linda was left stranded with a broken down car and a bottle of vodka.
Answering Linda’s drunken call to the Queen Vic, Janine set off to find her so she could convince her to keep her mouth firmly shut.
What followed was a heated showdown as Janine, who had brought someone along to repair the vehicle, then proceeded to drive Linda and baby Annie home while she demanded her silence. In the chaos of their row on the road, Janine swerved to avoid a lorry and lost control of the car, crashing into a tree.
In tonight’s EastEnders, the action picks up right where it left off - and Janine wakes up to hear Annie’s cries. But it’s not long before she realises that Linda is severely injured.
We can tease that at this point, Janine will show her true colours. But what exactly does this mean for poor Linda?
At the pub, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) is looking after the bar while Mick comforts Nancy, who is upset after her argument with Linda. Just as Sharon is pondering whether to tell them about Janine’s recent scheming, Shirley (Linda Henry) receives a call from the hospital.
The Carters rush over to hear news of Linda, and doctors inform the clan that she is in a critical condition and could die.
