Easter Bunny hops into Walkerton for a visit

WALKERTON – The Easter Bunny and Optimist friends brought loads of fun to the Sacred Heart parking lot on Saturday, March 20. By coincidence, March 20 is the International Day of Happiness.

Because of COVID-19, the traditional Easter bazaar couldn’t be held this year, so the Optimists did the next best thing – prepared a bag filled with do-it-at-home crafts and games, treats and Easter eggs for each child, and had parents drive through with their little ones for a visit with the Easter Bunny and a treat bag.

The fun items included sidewalk chalk, activity books and a sheet of Easter jokes. There are packets of sunflower seeds to plant and grow – and take photos of to send in. Craft items include materials, and children can watch a video to find out how to do them. They also have the chance to win prizes in the colouring contest.

One of the organizers, Val Austin, said 350 bags were prepared. All but 25 were distributed, and those went to children at the Walkerton daycare.
