Eastern College Charlottetown campus closing

Eastern College is shutting down its Charlottetown campus.

The private college operates five campuses in Atlantic Canada. Charlottetown is the only campus affected by this announcement. The campus will close Aug. 28.

Programs offered in Charlottetown this year included Accounting, Office Administration, Supply Chain & Logistics, Pharmacy Assistant and Resident Care Worker. The campus currently has about 60 students enrolled.

In a letter students were told the decision was made after a thorough review of the business and operations, and consideration of all options.

"Current trends within the market have had a significant impact on the operations of the Charlottetown Campus," the letter said.

The school also promised graduate services for its students through its Moncton campus.

The school employs 10 staff in Charlottetown, including administration, instructors and placement supervisors. An official with the school says staff are welcome to apply for job openings at any of the other Atlantic Canada campuses.
