El Nino to bring temperature swings, come fall: meteorologist

Sask. GDP expected to shrink 0.6% this year: Royal Bank

The weather may be going up to a high of 32 degrees in parts of the province today, but brace yourself, fall is only a few weeks away.

Predictions are already being made about what Canadians can expect weather-wise for the harvest season.

Chris Scott, chief meteorologist with the Weather Network says to expect above normal temperatures in Saskatchewan this fall. But that's not to say it will be consistently mild.

Scott predicts big swings in temperatures, a normal trend for the fall. The difference this year is that it will be more exaggerated, because of El Nino.

"There will be cold snaps with some snow. Expect a few false starts to winter" in September and October, he said.

The meteorologist also noted that "in November and December, a typical El Nino pattern will continue," leading to above-normal temperatures.

As far as today goes, Scott suggested that outdoor enthusiasts "enjoy today" and soak up the sun; it could be our last day that feels like summer, he said.
