This Elderly Couple Have Been Caring For A Homeless Man With Learning Difficulties For 35 Years

When Xue Shunlu and Li Huannv saw a homeless man wandering the streets of their village they decided to invite him in and take care of him.

Incredibly, 35 years later, the man, who has learning disabilities, still lives with the elderly couple – and has even taken their name.

The kind husband and wife, who live in a village in Yuncheng City, in north China’s Shanxi Province, said they found the man while visiting the township of Fenglingdu.

They have since cared for him like he was one of their own family.

But the incredible story of compassion only emerged this week.

The man, whose age they do not know, was wandering around aimlessly in the streets, and was being bullied by other villagers because of his odd behaviour, and because he could not speak.

Xue Shunlu, now 83, and Li took pity on him and decided to provide him with shelter – but they did not expect their good deed to last 35 years.

The man, who is homeless no more, took on the name “Xue Zheng”, taking the surname of his “foster relative” Xue Shunlu.

From not even being able to take care of himself, Xue Zheng is now able to help around the house, having been taught by the patient couple.

The elderly husband and wife said they have formed a strong emotional attachment to Xue Zheng, and the three are now inseparable.

The couple have also been seen as model philanthropists in their village, where similar cases of compassion are few and far between.
