Elderly man who uses walker beaten, robbed at Grant's Old Mill Park in Winnipeg

Police investigate after woman stopped by stranger in Charleswood

A man in his sixties who uses a walker to get around is recovering after he was robbed and beaten by a man he did not know, police say.

It happened at Grant's Old Mill Park on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to police, the culprit approached the man, grabbed his arm and demanded money.

Before the man could respond, the culprit knocked him to the ground by assaulting him. The man handed over an undisclosed amount of money and the culprit continued to beat him as he lay on the ground.

Before running away, the culprit warned the man there would be consequences should he contact police.

Police describe the person responsible for robbing and assaulting the man as around six feet tall with short brown hair and dark eyes. He spoke with an accent, although investigators say they are not certain what other languages he speaks.
