SINGAPORE — Electricity tariff in Singapore households will increase by an average of 1.83 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for the period of October to December, said SP Group on Wednesday (30 September).

For households, the electricity tariff before 7 per cent goods and services tax (GST) will increase by 9.3 per cent from 19.60 to 21.43 cents per kWh for 1 October to 31 December. The average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room HDB flats will increase by $7.01 (before 7% GST).

SP Group said in a media release that the increase is due to higher energy costs, which forms a major component of the electricity tariff and is paid to power generation companies.

The electricity and gas distribution company added that the revised tariff and that of the preceding quarter are the lowest in the past three years.

The remaining components of the tariff remain unchanged. They consist of network costs and market support services fees to SP Group, as well as market administration and power system operation fee (paid to energy market company and power system operator).

The electricity tariffs are reviewed quarterly based on guidelines set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), which has approved the tariffs.
