Elon Musk Sells Gene Wilder’s Former House to Wilder’s Nephew

Elon Musk can rest easy knowing that his beloved Bel Air mansion won’t be “torn down or lose any [of] its soul,” as he stipulated on Twitter when he listed it in May. That’s because the buyer of the 2,800-square-foot property, which previously belonged to Hollywood legend Gene Wilder, is Elizabeth Hunter, the wife of Wilder’s nephew Jordan Walker-Perlman. According to Variety, Musk recently sold the estate to the screenwriter and TV producer for $7 million in an off-market deal. (That’s a considerable bit less than the $9.5 million original asking price—but, granted, he seemed more concerned about maintaining the integrity of the home than turning a profit.)

Situated on a .78-acre lot, the Wilder estate was originally built in 1951 and features five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. There is also a guest cottage and a kidney-shaped swimming pool, as well as a tall wall of hedges that ensure the utmost privacy.

Variety reports that Musk never lived in the Wilder estate. Instead, he used it as a private school, which he called AdAstra, attended by his children (he has six including new baby X Æ A-12) and the children of select top SpaceX and Tesla employees. Earlier this year, Musk sold his other Bel Air property to Chinese billionaire “William” Ding Lei for $29 million cash. That home, which he listed for $30 million in May, includes a 16,251-square-foot main house with seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. Musk also owns at least five other properties, which he also put on the market earlier this year in a bid to “own no house,” he tweeted at the time.
