Emily in Paris star Lucas Bravo on the French cliché that is "so true" in the show
Yes, Netflix's Emily in Paris is totally full of wall-to-wall clichés but that doesn't mean we didn't love it any less. The series received mixed reviews, with some criticising those cliches and the idealised view of Paris the show portrays.
However, creator Darren Star has since said he always wanted the show to be a "love letter to Paris" seen through the eyes of Lily Collins' character. "The first thing she is seeing is the clichés because it's from her point of view," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I wanted to do a show that celebrated that part of Paris."
And according to Lucas Bravo, who plays Emily's neighbour Gabriel, at least one of the show's clichés is true.
"For me the biggest cliché, so to speak - that actually is so true - is people smoking after the gym. It's so true," he told People. "You know, 'Oh, after this big effort, the lungs are perfectly open and ready to receive some nicotine, so let's smoke a cigarette,'" Lucas joked.
"It is so French, and I was actually surprised that he [creator, Darren Star] put that in the show. It was really funny."
As for a season 2, while Netflix hasn't officially renewed the show, Darren is confident it will be coming back. "In season 2, she's going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she's living in. She'll be more of a resident of the city," Darren told OprahMag.com. "She'll have her feet on the ground a little more. She's making a life there."
And he's not the only one who's keen; Lily told Vanity Fair: "I would love nothing more than to be able to go back to Paris and do [a new season]."
And we'd also very much like a season 2, please.
