Emily Ratajkowski just broke the news that she's pregnant, expecting her first child with husband Sebastian Bear-McClard next year. The model and actress announced the happy development via a Vogue cover, comprising of a series of gorgeous bump photos and a personal essay written by Emily herself.

In the essay, the 29-year-old contemplates the idea of gender in relation to her unborn child, explaining that she's realised she is more focussed on who - rather than what - her child will be, despite previously having yearned for a daughter.

But in an admirably honest move, in her essay Emily Ratajkowski also openly shares some of the less shiny and exciting sides of pregnancy, including how she has largely found the experience to be a lonely one.

"Pregnancy is innately lonely; it’s something a woman does by herself, inside her body, no matter what her circumstances may be," writes Emily. "Despite having a loving partner and many female friends ready to share the gritty details of their pregnancies, I am ultimately alone with my body in this experience. There is no one to feel it with me—the sharp muscular aches in my lower abdomen that come out of nowhere while I’m watching a movie or the painful heaviness of my breasts that now greets me first thing every morning."

The mum-to-be revealed how her husband likes to say "we're pregnant," a sentiment that Emily says is "sweet" but "not entirely true."

"My husband has no physical symptoms in 'our' pregnancy, another reminder of how different a woman and man’s experience of life can be," she writes.

Despite the fact that pregnancy is a new and unknown experience for Emily Ratajkowski, she certainly seems to be embracing the lack of control she has over her body now. Accepting that she is "completely and undeniably helpless" when it comes to her changing body and the person growing inside her, the expectant mother has maintained a calmness so far throughout her pregnancy.

"Instead of feeling afraid, I feel a new sense of peace," she writes. "I’m already learning from this person inside my body. I’m full of wonder."
