EMMA COBURN: My name's Emma Coburn. I am a track and field athlete, specializing in the steeplechase. I'm a 2012 and 2016 Olympian.

In Rio, I won the bronze. And I'm a world champion as well from 2017. It was a different preparation for this upcoming Olympics.

But I feel like I took that time to really prepare on my training in different ways than I ever had the opportunity to. I did pretty well through COVID and lock down and cancellations of meets and all of that because I just focused on what I could control. And that was training hard, training smart, being safe.

And so truthfully, my mental health, I felt, I had prepared my whole career for a moment where the world was crazy and things were really terrible and sad. But I knew to just control what I can control and really day-to-day would just focus on my training. And that got me through. And now there's light at the end of the tunnel.
