Emma Stone Embraces a Darker Dye Job for Winter

The actress embraced a seasonal switch-up with an umber dye job.

If one is experimenting with a new dye job—perhaps it’s a 2019 resolution to take more risks with beauty—tradition goes that wintertime calls for a darker shade. Yet celebrities have been doing quite the opposite as of late: Hailey Baldwin revealed a pastel pink color this month, for instance, while Priyanka Chopra also debuted sunny dip-dyed highlights earlier this week. But one star embracing the darker seasonal switch-up? Emma Stone.

Last night, the actress hit the red carpet at the 30th Annual Producers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills, California, where she debuted a drastically deeper hue. She traded in her signature auburn lengths for more of an umber color, tying the hair into a low bun with one side slicked back, the other with wavy pieces hanging down the front. Stone first unveiled her new coloring earlier this weekend at a Golden State Warriors versus Los Angeles Clippers game (alongside boyfriend Dave McCary), but last night’s outing marked its official debut on the step and repeat. (Red carpet photos or it didn’t happen.)

Stone finished off her evening look with dusty rose eye makeup that made her green eyes pop and a light coral lip. But it was the hair that really caught the eye. Contrasted against her fair complexion and a pale yellow Louis Vuitton dress, the deep shade felt refreshingly new and wholly unexpected; it goes to show that, sometimes, tried-and-true rules are worth following after all.
