Emmerdale looks set to revisit the mutual animosity between Pierce Harris and Vanessa Woodfield.

The ITV soap delivered a huge storyline twist this week, as Pierce returned to the village following his release from prison and killed Graham Foster.

With more to come from Pierce's storyline over the next few weeks, it seems likely that the dangerous villain will be getting up to no good – and that could include settling old scores with Vanessa.

In a recent chat with Digital Spy and other media about his return, Jonathan Wrather – who plays Pierce – confirmed that he has been filming with Michelle Hardwick (Vanessa).

Jonathan explained: "It's just great being back and working with Zoe Henry, Michelle, everybody. Everyone around the building has just been so charming and welcoming.

"I forgot how much I really loved it, actually. It's like putting on an old pair of slippers. It's like being back home. It's been a wonderful experience."

Vanessa was one of the first villagers to see Pierce's dark side during his first stint in the show, which saw them frequently at odds.

When Vanessa saw Pierce's nasty side and became concerned for her best friend Rhona Goskirk, the villain fought back by trying to turn everyone against her.

Vanessa also took the stand in Pierce's rape trial following his attack on Rhona, briefly lying in court in order to improve the chances of a conviction.

Jonathan has also confirmed that – unsurprisingly – he'll be sharing scenes with Zoe Henry soon too.

He said: "There's no doubt it will be terrifying when Rhona finds out Pierce is out and wonders what he's going to do. The effect it has on her can go a number of different ways and we will see that.

"It's interesting. Certainly she reacts in a way that we don't know what she is capable of, let's put it that way…"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
