English school board puts out call for fuel tank inspections

The English Language School Board has called for tenders for the inspection of all 73 fuel tanks at its schools and other properties.

It follows an oil tank leak at Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside in May in which 11,000 litres spilled from the 26-year-old tank, which had rusted out at the bottom.

But John Cummings, the director of corporate services, says this is part of a regular inspection that's done every few years.

"The inspections will ask for a complete inspection of the tank and any equipment associated with the tank," Cummings said.

"It is a regular thing that we do. The incident that we did have at Three Oaks just makes the inspection even more pertinent."

All the inspection work will be complete by the end of December.

Cummings notes since the leak at Three Oaks, custodial staff with the school board have increased visual inspections of fuel tanks and containment areas.
