Hatters are invited to view four documentary films on a 360-degree screen at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre from Nov. 2-6. The films are shown in a “media cylinder” six metres in diameter and 2.55 metres in height.

The immersive experience is part of the InSight Project, a collaborative effort between the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation, Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation and Manitoba Council for International Cooperation. The project, known as InSight 360, is funded by Global Affairs Canada and aims to expose Canadians to stories about global development.

“This project largely was started so that folks who don’t have the opportunity to travel abroad … could have the chance to view and experience (them),” Thomas Coldwell, InSight co-ordinator and global citizenship education specialist with ACGC, told the News.

Each film addresses a topic relating to global development. Clouds Over Sidra focuses on migration and refugee life, Samuel’s Fairtrade Journey explores fair-trade coffee farming, Growing a World Wonder discusses the threats which climate change present and Two Drops of Patience follows a young woman and her experiences with gender equality in the realm of healthcare.

“We hope that viewers will have a better understanding of international co-operation and gender equality through he firsthand lens of the people in the video,” said Coldwell. “We also hope people will develop a stronger connection and sense of global citizenship through participating in this project.”

InSight 360 is specifically directed toward youth but welcomes all members of the public. There is no entry fee. Films will be running from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. It runs from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday.
