The best of Broadway was celebrated during last night’s Tony Awards.

More from Variety

“A Strange Loop” was named the best musical while “The Lehman Trilogy” nabbed the prize for best play. Another big winner was “Company,” which took home five prizes including best revival of a musical, a bittersweet moment considering the death of the show’s creator Stephen Sondheim only seven months ago.

Tony winners often enjoy an uptick in ticket sales following the awards show. Nearly every show running on Broadway already saw a huge jump in box office sales in the final week of the 2021-2022 season. “A Strange Loop,” which follows the meta tale of a Black gay man (Michael R. Jackson) writing a musical about a Black gay man writing a musical, can expect to see a surge in ticket sales after last night. “The Lehman Trilogy,” which follows the epic rise and fall of the infamous Lehman brothers, won’t be able to capitalize on its victory, however, since the show ended its limited run in January.

That being said, plenty of shows that were shut out at the Tonys can still be expected to see continued box office success. “The Music Man,” for example, can be expected to continue selling out seats thanks to Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s high-wattage star power despite not taking home any wins last night.
