Demi Lovato had a relatively quiet 2019 out of the public eye before filling up her calendar in 2020, but that’s poised to change even more now that we're a few months into 2021. Demi’s been hard at work on new music and we’ve got evidence that it’s coming sooner rather than later, so whether your 2021 horoscope predicts merriness or mayhem, at least we have this bright spot!

Demi’s spent time in the studio working on the newly-titled album, but we do know a few things about her follow-up to 2017’s Tell Me You Love Me, so let’s get to it.

There's FINALLY a release date and album title.

Demi's upcoming album is called Dancing With the Devil...The Art of Starting Over. Prepare yourself, Lovatic, because it comes out on April 2.

Like many records over the past year, the release of the album was initially delayed. TMZ gave Lovatics some ~exclusive intel~ last January and said Demi’s whole album was supposed to (key words) drop sometime in 2020—in a December 2020 interview on the (Re)Session podcast by Jeezy, Demi confirmed this by saying the new release date was TBD, but she told fans to keep their eyes set on 2021 for new music…and a new documentary, which we now know to be called Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil.

“The tea is…I am releasing an album and a documentary next year,” she said at the time. “I’ve been working on this album since 2018 and my life has taken so many twists and turns since then, and it’s changed the direction, the sound, the story.…I’m really excited to release all of this new music.”

We've got some *possible* singles.

Nothing says “I’m back, bitches” quite like releasing a new song on a Grammys Sunday, which is exactly what Demi did at the beginning of 2020. Instead of singing an old hit, she performed a new song called “Anyone,” which Billboard later confirmed to be on the album.

Since then, she’s kept up the momentum by releasing single after single, including “I Love Me,” “Still Have Me,” “OK Not To Be OK,” and “Commander in Chief.”

This will be her first album with new manager Scooter Braun.

Yes, Scooter Braun of Taylor Swift feud infamy is involved in Demi’s new music. Demi announced last May that she’s working with Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s hitmaker, and she commemorated their new status as a music power couple with a cute selfie.

“GUYS!!!!!!! Dreams came true today for me. I officially have a NEW MANAGER!!!” Demi wrote on Insta. “And not just any new manager but the one and only @ScooterBraun!!!! Couldn’t be happier, inspired, and excited to begin this next chapter with you Scooter!!! Thank you for believing in me and for being a part of this new journey. Let’s DO THIS!!!!!!”

It’ll be her first album since her 2018 overdose.

This new era will mark Demi’s official return to the music scene, and she plans on using the opportunity to be candid with her fans. Her song “Anyone” is an example of that—she wrote and recorded it shortly before her overdose and talked about her state of mind during the process.

“I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help,” she told New Music Daily With Zane Lowe. “And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, How did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl?’

“I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt I was okay, but clearly I wasn’t,” she said. “I even listen back to it and I’m like, Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself.”

Even before her 2020 Grammys performance, Demi was candid with fans about how her music is an honest reflection of her.

“You know what’s great about making an album? You get to say anything you want, be as open and honest as possible, and finally tell your side of the story regardless of who might not like it,” she posted on Instagram Stories in June 2020.

TMZ said Demi’s album will touch on her “overdose, her time in rehab, her sobriety, and the journey/struggle to get there,” so expect some really powerful ballads.

She’s working with Grammy-nominated producer Oak Felder.

Oak seems to really dig the album, as evidenced by this clip of him dancing to it in the studio (with the sound strategically silenced, womp womp).

Demi and Oak have collaborated before on “Sorry Not Sorry,” so this is already a great sign of what’s to come.

Demi’s also working with songwriter Bianca “Blush” Atterberry.

After Bianca called Demi a “whole-ass queen” (which, true), Demi brought up the album they’re working on together.

And that brings you up to speed with what we know! But until Demi releases something, I guess you’ll just have to stream Demi Lovato’s best songs over and over and over and over again….
