Everything We Know About The White Lotus Season 3

As Jack on Lost once said, we have to go back. To the White Lotus resort chain. After two hit seasons, HBO Max’s murder mystery The White Lotus has been renewed for a third, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on November 18, 2022. The news came a few weeks after the premiere of the second season, which starred Meghann Fahy, Haley Lu Richardson, Aubrey Plaza, and Theo James, as well as Jennifer Coolidge, who won an Emmy for her role as Tanya in season one.
The show’s creator, Mike White, also took home an Emmy for his work on season one, as did outstanding supporting actor Murray Bartlett. Several members of the ensemble cast received nominations as well, including Sydney Sweeney, Connie Britton, Jake Lacey, Steve Zahn, Natasha Rothwell, and Alexandra Daddario. In total, the show earned 10 Emmys in 2022.
Safe to say, people are excited to find out what White is cooking up for season three, which will air in 2025 and take place in Thailand.
Here’s everything we know about the third season of The White Lotus.
A teaser trailer is here!
Our first teaser trailer for season 3 is short and sweet—but exciting for fans as it features a glimpse at Blackpink’s Lisa in her first acting role.
The K-pop star is the only character who speaks in the eight-second clip, saying the now iconic line, “Welcome to the White Lotus.”
We also see glimpses of previously announced season-three cast members including Michelle Monaghan and Walter Goggins, as well as Natasha Rothwell’s triumphant return as Belinda.
The teaser is our second sneak peek so far at the season. In early August 2024, as part of HBO/Max’s compiled trailer for its upcoming slate, we got our first look at the show, including Leslie Bibb saying, “What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand,” as well as…a boxing match?
Where does season 3 take place?
The next season will follow a new group of guests at a different White Lotus resort, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Seasons one and two took place in Hawaii and Sicily, respectively. Season three takes place in Thailand and, as with previous seasons, was filmed at a Four Seasons resort.
“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex, and I think the third season, it would be may be a kind of satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality,” said White in a post-season-two interview. “It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
Which cast members are returning?
Only two characters from season one made it to season two—Coolidge’s Tanya and Jon Gries’s Greg Hunt—so we’re probably in for (mostly) new faces in season three, alongside Rothwell's Belinda.
Since the forthcoming season is slated to focus on religion and spirituality, it makes perfect sense that Belinda might pop up, given her background in wellness.
In White’s post season 2-finale interview, the creator alluded to a storyline involving Greg’s whereabouts.
“I think as far as, like, what happens to Greg and the conspiracy of Tanya’s death, it’s possible that I think Portia is scared enough to just leave it alone,” said White, “but the fact that all of those guys die on the boat, it feels like there’s gotta be somebody who’s going to track it back down to Greg. But maybe you’ll have to wait and find out what happens.”
What new actors are joining the cast?
The first new cast list dropped on January 5, 2024, and it looks like a promising group. Per Variety, Jennifer Coolidge’s Best in Show costar Parker Posey is on board, alongside Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise.
HBO also announced the addition of Bibb, Dom Hetrakul, Monaghan, and Tayme Thapthimthong (Farang).
On January 16, HBO revealed even more new faces who will be joining the show for season three, including Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education), Goggins (The Righteous Gemstones), Sarah Catherine Hook (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), Sam Nivola (Maestro), and Patrick Schwarzenegger (son of Arnold).
By August, we had the full cast list thanks to IMDb, and the other stars are: Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Arnas Fedaravicius, Scott Glenn, Charlotte Le Bon, Sarah Catherine Hook, Leslie Bibb, Nicholas Duvernay, Christian Friedel, Dom Hetrakul, Julian Kostov, Lalisa Manoban, and Morgana O'Reilly.
When does White Lotus season 3 premiere?
The series isn’t slated to make its return until 2025, and HBO hasn't announced a premiere date yet.
This post will be updated.
