‘Evil begets evil.’ Trump’s cabinet nominations show lack of moral clarity | Opinion

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, left, has nominated former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to be attorney general.

Trump’s evil begets more evil

“Evil begets evil.” Trump’s choice for attorney general and to lead the Department of Defense clearly demonstrate his lack of moral clarity.

Both nominees have been accused of sexual assaults, and you can be sure that Trump will do whatever it takes to get both confirmed despite the accusations.

Trump owns the Republican party, and too many have “drank the Kool-aid.” Too few have stood up to him, and those who have, have paid a dear cost.

Unfortunately, we continue the era of Trump where evil continues to beget evil.

Planned obsolescence and pollution

Planned obsolescence is the act of producing cheap and poorly made consumer goods that need frequent replacement. This is achieved by changing product design often, terminating the supply of spare parts for repair, and the use of nondurable materials.

How is planned obsolescence draining your wallet, and ruining the environment? Products like electronics, cars and appliances (and more) are intentionally made to fall apart. It’s expensive to replace those items. It leads to increased waste and environmental pollution. Cheap stuff ends up as landfill waste, and drains Earth’s natural resources.

Opinion

Manufacturing increases pollution and carbon emissions, causing further environmental damage and climate disaster. We have solutions for this, like introducing legislation for longer warranties and the right to repair. We can prioritize durable materials and recyclable products. We can educate consumers on the impact of cheaply made products and encourage more sustainable purchases. We should only invest in sustainable technologies and materials.

Let’s not live in the “Wall-E” movie. Imagine a higher-quality lifestyle and a less polluted world for your children and advocate for the better, with your dollar.

Corporate farmers flex their muscle

Now that Central Valley corporate ag interests got their way on Tuesday, Nov. 5, the pilgrimage of their lobbyists and $1,000-an-hour lawyers to Washington, D.C. will commence to beg the newly anointed one to not deport their labor force come Jan. 20.

Even economist Milton Friedman, one of their early prophets, declared more than 40 years ago that illegal immigration from Mexico was good for America.

No doubt, those same corporate ag interests will continue to gloat by not removing their campaign billboards along Highway 41 south of Fresno.

Myth of making America great

After the Jan. 6, 2021 riots, I said that Trump, the worst US president ever, is not the real problem here, but the 75 million who voted for him.

Trump’s campaign was vile and inhumane, but our concern is that the vileness and muck he exhibited before and after — possibly the ongoing court cases against him — has given permission to that 75 million-plus, with the same mindset, to act in the same manner now publicly.

Trump showed us he is above reproach, and accountable to no one. He sets the stage for his followers’ open vileness and inhumanity, demonstrated by the racial hatred, disrespect of other people and their religions, the gay bashing and misogynous rhetoric, is no longer done in secret, but publicly.

The “power” his followers seemly have is the reason to sit up, take stock, and ask: Where is our country heading? What kind of people do we want our children to become? What will we do about it?

Failure to recognize these truths is the detriment to us all, whether we participated in it or not.

Reality: Our leader is a criminal; our values are nonexistent, and our “great country” is a myth.
