Exclusive: Hugh Grant almost made his The Undoing character American
Hugh Grant has opened up about why he decided to keep his British accent in HBO's new murder mystery series The Undoing.
The About a Boy and Paddington 2 actor portrays New York oncologist Jonathan Fraser who, along with his wife Grace (played by Nicole Kidman), becomes embroiled in a life-changing event when a dead body is found.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the 60-year-old admitted that his native tongue allowed him to portray his character more effectively.

"I read him as American and I did toy with the idea of playing him American, but in the end decided he might as well be a Brit," Grant said.
"I think there's a certain number of British doctors working in New York and I thought well, it might even help because in episode one, we have to think, 'Oh, he's so wonderful and he's charming as well as saving kids' lives', and all that.
"And I reckoned I could do that better as a Brit than as an American."

The Undoing also stars Ismael Cruz Cordova, Edgar Ramirez, Matilda De Angelis, Sofie Grabol, Lily Rabe, Noah Jupe, Donald Sutherland and Noma Dumezweni.
Elsewhere, Grant's Oscar-winning co-star Kidman recently admitted she didn't feel she was "talented enough" to land the role Julia Roberts took in the rom-com classic Notting Hill.
