New exhibit honours Edmonton indigenous history

A new exhibit on display at city hall provides a glimpse into the history of Edmonton's indigenous communities.

The art show was organized in partnership wth Reconciliation in Solidarity Edmonton (RISE), a group of citizens who hope to carry on the mandate of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

"For four months, members of RISE brought together archival photographs, public input, social media, and public art to create a platform for dialogue around reconciliation past and present in Edmonton," reads a description from RISE.

"This event is an opportunity to unveil the works and create more opportunity for cross-cultural conversations and foster understanding."

The gallery of works is just one part of #ReconcilingYEG, a Wednesday night event which will celebrate Edmonton's indigenous cultures with art, poetry and community round dance.

All are welcome to attend the free celebration between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
