Highway 1, Coquihalla and Lions Gate Bridge partially reopen after weather-related accidents

Heavy snow on Sunday night in several regions of the province made for dangerous driving conditions and resulted in several closures.

Drive BC says Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope has been closed in both directions due to extreme winter conditions. The highway has since reopened west of Hope just before 2:00 a.m. Monday

Highway 5 closure

Drive BC also said the Coquihalla, Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt, had closed in both directions due to vehicle incidents. Northbound traffic on the highway reopened just before 2:00 a.m. Monday.

In Vancouver, police reopened one lane of the Lions Gate Bridge in each direction around 11:30 p.m. after shutting it for two hours. Drive BC had asked vehicles to yield to plows working to keep the bridge clear of snow.

Heavy snow falling in Vancouver on Sunday night resulted in delays and congestion according to Drive BC.

The City of Vancouver said it had deployed crews to try and keep roadways clear. Environment Canada said up to 10 centimetres of snow could fall in Metro Vancouver Sunday evening.
