F1 Star Max Verstappen Expecting First Baby with Model Girlfriend Kelly Piquet: ‘We Couldn’t Be Happier'

Max Verstappen will be racing out for something new soon enough: diapers.

The reigning world champion Formula One driver, 27, and girlfriend Kelly Piquet, 35, are expecting their first baby together.

"We couldn’t be happier with our little miracle 💫," the couple said in a joint social media post shared on Friday, Dec. 6 to announce their happy news.

The upload included a photo of Verstappen and Piquet placing their hands on her baby belly. "Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way ❤️," they wrote.

This will be Piquet's second child. The Brazilian model, who is daughter of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet, shares 5-year-old daughter Penelope with Russian F1 driver ex Daniil Kvyat.

Kelly and Kvyat split in 2019. She and Verstappen began dating in 2020 and went public with their romance on New Year's Day in 2021, with a sweet snap of them posing together on a Brazilian beach. "Love is what makes the world go round," she wrote.

Though Verstappen rarely shares personal things on Instagram, Kelly regularly posts photos of herself with her beau. She's called him "the love of my life," and often boasts at how proud she is of his success.

Verstappen is currently driving under the Dutch flag in F1 for Red Bull Racing. He's won four F1 World Drivers' Championship titles consecutively from 2021 to 2024, and has a whopping 63 Grands Prix wins over the past 10 seasons.

On Saturday, he'll compete in his 10th F1 race of the year at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It'll be the final race of Verstappen's season.

The athlete also comes from racing royalty. He's the son of Dutch former F1 driver Jos Verstappen and Belgian former kart racer Sophie Kumpen.

Until his next race, Max can bask in the congratulatory wishes shared on social media.

"Cannot express how happy we are," Kelly wrote on her instagram Stories on Friday, thanking her friends and followers for "all the sweet warm messages."

She also took time to express her support to women hoping to have a child themselves.

"I understand how these announcements can be challenging for those who are longing for a child," Kelly wrote. "While such news is often a joyous occasion, it can also evoke feelings of sadness, frustration or longing in those who are struggling with this. If that’s you, I’m sending all my love, my deepest hugs and magic your way."
