Fable Daycare aims to spark wonder in Morinville youngsters

In the heart of Morinville, north of Edmonton, a project of storybook proportions is coming to life.

The Fable Daycare is being constructed to fire the imaginations of all the children who will attend it.

The storybook-themed complex has been a passion of developer Robert Chauvet for more than a decade.

Now, since his retirement, it's more than halfway to completion.

Chauvet says childhood storybooks and fairy tales gave him the inspiration for the $2.5-million project.

Asked why he would want to create such a whimsical building, he has a ready answer.

"I think the question should be, 'Why not?' Why not do something special and extraordinary?' "

A series of buildings, not one of them with a straight angle on its roofline, will provide daycare for up to 90 children at a time. The walls will be decorated with storybook characters.

The Fable Daycare is located at 100th Street and 101st Avenue in Morinville.

It's set to open next June.

Says Chauvet of the construction team helping him: "We are all working together to create a dream."
