Fairfield Park outbreak in decline

The tide may have turned for Fairfield Park.

The beleaguered long-term care home, hard hit by an outbreak of COVID-19, saw its first residents vaccinated against the virus Saturday.

According to an announcement on the home’s webpage, XX doses of the Moderna vaccine were administered.

One Fairfield Park resident in her mid-90s at the home died Feb. 6, as the result of COVID-19. Two others diagnosed with the illness also passed away, but not as a direct result of the virus.

With the exception of residents still presenting positive for COVID-19, all of Chatham-Kent’s most vulnerable residents have now been vaccinated.

Data posted Friday indicate containment measures are working as the number of resolved cases continues to climb.

There were only 15 active cases in residents and 27 staff members testing positive.
