Family of 8 displaced after fire on Russell Road

A family of eight is displaced after a two-alarm fire broke out in a townhouse on Russell Road Saturday evening.

The fire at 1767 Russell Rd. happened shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to Ottawa Fire Services.

A 911 call reported a fire broke out in one of the bathrooms of a townhouse, just a few blocks from the Canada Science and Technology Museum. The fire then spread to the roof of the home.

No injuries were reported.

Residents forced out temporarily

The townhouse occupants were displaced because of the extent of the damage to the home. An estimate was not immediately available.

A fire inspector has been requested.

Firefighters were also called Saturday for a cooking fire at 10:30 p.m. in unit 811 at 1541 Riverside Dr.

The occupants left the unit by closing the door behind them. No injuries were reported, according to fire services.
