Elderly Brampton woman missing since Thursday found alive in Georgetown parking lot
A 73-year-old Brampton woman, who had been missing for four days, is recovering in hospital after being found in the parking lot of a Georgetown Food Basics on Sunday.
Carole Berry went missing at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday from the area of of Hurontario Street and Elgin Drive.
Berry's daughter Susan told CBC Toronto that it's not clear why her mother went missing, but doctors believe that she may have had a minor stroke, which may have caused her to become disoriented and confused.
Susan said more than 100 people came out to help for the search of her mother, but no one thought to look in Georgetown in Halton Hills because it wasn't an area Carole frequented.
"Braeden Murray, who works at that Food Basics, found my mom sitting outside of her car, slumped over but still conscious," Susan said. "My mom explained to him that she had hurt her knee and she would like to make a phone call."
'Unbelievably relieving'
Murray then called 911 once Carole wasn't able to remember her phone number. Paramedics then took Carole to the Georgetown Hospital.
"We have spoken to Braeden and expressed our just deepest gratitude to him. He did a wonderful thing," Susan said. "He's being very humble about the whole situation saying it was nothing, but really Braeden, he did save a life."
Susan says she was at a coffee shop with a friend when she learned her mother was found and at the Georgetown Hospital. The phone call was "unbelievably relieving and just emotionally overwhelming," she said.
"I was starting to prepare for the worst and was just saying that to my friend when she got the call that my mom was found. It was just the best news I could ever have," she added. "Of course we broke down and cried and we were so happy and rushed over here to find my mom at the hospital."
Susan says her mother is weak and dehydrated but is otherwise in good condition. It's unknown when Carole will be released from hospital.
"She's just feeling relieved and of course apologetic for causing such a fuss," she said of her mother.
