Family of Saskatoon's missing Kandice Singbeil appeals for help

It's been more than two months since Jenna Singbeil spoke to her eldest sister, Kandice.

Singbeil, 24, currently attends university in the U.S., and said her sister always kept in touch through social media or by calling to check in.

She explained that in the past, it had not been uncommon for her and her family to go weeks without hearing from Kandice, but things had changed since she became a mother.

"Kandice has a young daughter and a young son," she said. "We have been hearing from her a lot more often."

Singbeil said her family — who call Swift Current, Sask., home — are extremely worried by Kandice's May disappearance.

"We are completely in the dark with what has happened," she said. "We have a lot of unanswered questions and unconfirmed sightings."

Singbeil said Kandice, 32, has a magnetic personality and is able to make new friends easily.

"She's extremely outgoing, able to find common ground with everyone," she said. "My mom always talks about how she misses her laugh."

Singbeil also explained that while the characterization of her sister's life as high-risk is true, it does not diminish who Kandice is as a sister, daughter, friend, and most importantly, mother.

"That statement references criminal association, domestic violence and substance abuse," Singbeil said of the initial missing person report released to the public.

"Kandice's lifestyle involved all three of those, however, I think it's extremely important for the public to understand that substance abuse is an illness and criminal associations and domestic violence are direct results of that lifestyle," Singbeil said. "Those are challenges our family has faced with Kandice for many years. But it does not change the fact that we love her very much and we pray for her to return safe."

Singbeil said hundreds of people gathered together to pray with her family, for Kandice, at a candlelight vigil held in Swift Current in May.

Singbeil family appeals for public's help

Singbeil said her family has been in contact with the Saskatoon Police Service regularly.

"If anyone knows what happened to Kandice, I would just hope that they can find the empathy and the courage to come forward and to speak with police," she said. "Even if they do not have the full story, even parts of the story could help solve a bigger puzzle."

Singbeil said in the meantime Kandice's young children are staying with family.

"We are optimistic that she is alive," she said. "Kandice is one of the strongest people I know."

"Investigators are continuing to actively investigate the disappearance of Kandice Singbeil and are asking anyone with information to talk to us, or Crime Stoppers," the Saskatoon Police Service stated.

Meanwhile, various efforts continue online to find Singbeil and spread the word of her disappearance.

"The Saskatoon Police Service would still encourage friends, family and concerned citizens to continue using social media to increase the awareness of missing people, but that Crime Stoppers be the tool of choice for anonymously communicating information to assist police," said the SPS.

Anyone with information about Kandice Marie Singbeil's whereabouts is asked to contact police at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
