This fan theory about The Witcher explains something big about Jaskier

From Cosmopolitan

If you were slightly confused by the timeline in Netflix's The Witcher, you wouldn't be the only one. Although fans love the show, many of them have said that following the timeline can sometimes take a bit of working-out, which is why trying to determine the ages of the characters can also be difficult. But one fan has come up with a clever theory about Jaskier and why he seems to never age.

We know that because Geralt is a Witcher he ages very slowly, as do all the mages, but as many fans have pointed out Jaskier is a bard so he should age at a normal rate, but he seems to be as ageless as all the other characters.

On Netflix's official Witcher site, a timeline explains that Jaskier was born in 1222, meaning he was 18 when he met Geralt and 42 by the end of the first season, but many fans have been asking why, more than two decades older, on he doesn't appear to have aged at all.

In a Reddit AMA series showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich admitted that the show had "dropped the ball on aging him up over the course of the show," adding that, "It's hard to show the passage of time when everyone looks the same, so we'll be approaching that differently in S2." But fans were quick to say they felt there was more to it than that...

One Reddit user quickly posted a theory on The Witcher subreddit saying they believed Jaskier was actually immortal, having accidentally drunk some immortality potion believing it was wine. "Cause that’s just a very Bard thing to do," they added.

Meanwhile another Reddit user came up with a very meta theory, that the series is actually a story being told by Jaskier, who, as the narrator, will always portray himself as youthful.

The good news for fans is that filming for series 2 of The Witcher resumed last month after being put on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. And, if that wasn't enough, Netflix has also announced a prequel show titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, which will be set 1,200 years before The Witcher and will form a six-episode miniseries.
