Fans Have a Lot of Questions After Ryan Seacrest Called Out Sick Two Days in a Row on 'Live'

From Good Housekeeping

  • On Thursday and Friday, Ryan Seacrest was absent from Live With Kelly and Ryan after coming down with a sore throat.

  • On Friday night, he appeared on the CW to host the 2020 iHeartRadio Music Festival, a two-night virtual event.

  • Ryan's social media fans were left wondering if the media mogul might be pushing himself too hard.

Ryan Seacrest inadvertently caused a bit of a stir over the weekend.

On Friday, September 18, the 45-year-old was front and center at the 2020 iHeartRadio Music Festival as host. The two-night virtual event was celebrating its 10th anniversary with performances by a slew of big-name stars, including Alicia Keys, Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Miley Cyrus and BTS, among others. But fans had to do a double take when they spotted Ryan, since he had called out sick from his hosting duties on Live With Kelly and Ryan earlier that day.

On Thursday, co-host Kelly Ripa opened the show addressing Ryan’s absence. Hosting solo, she let viewers at home know that he was feeling under the weather.

“Ryan Seacrest has a little bit of a sore throat, and under an abundance of caution, he decided to stay home today,” she told viewers. “Don’t panic, nobody panic. Everything will be fine. We can call him later and cause trouble and check-in on him. Just see what’s really going on over there, but feel better, Ryan. We love you. We will carry on in your spirit.”

Ryan was also out sick the following day, on Friday. So when Ryan posted a photo of himself hosting the iHeartRadio festival, fans instantly took to the comments section to figure out what was going on. “I thought he was sick?????” one person wrote. “Thought he had a sore throat?” another added. “Hopefully you are feeling better,” a different fan said. “Yeah I thought you were sick. You missed two days of Kelly. We were worried about you 💙 You are one busy man,” a follower commented.

But there were other fans who advocated for his privacy and his right to take a sick day when needed. “Give him a break. It’s really none of my business why he didn't go to work,” a person said. “Leave the guy alone!! We do miss you on Live!! ❤️,” another wrote.

In May, Ryan struggled to read off his script on American Idol, prompting concerns from fans. At the time, his rep said there was nothing to worry about and that Ryan was simply "in need of rest" due to the "added stress of having to put on live shows from home."

Thankfully, on Monday, Ryan was back on Live With Ryan and Kelly and appeared to be in tip-top shape. Although he didn’t speak out about his health or two-day absence from the show, it seems that the ginger root hibiscus tea he was making himself may have helped.

The hustle never stops for the busy host!
