Farmers eagerly awaiting arrival or warmer temperatures

Farmers in Essex County are eager to see temperatures warm up soon.

Planting season is fast approaching. It likely won't arrive early.

"In the past, we have planted some corn in April, if the weather permits, if it warmed up," Lakeshore's Leo Guilbeault said. "It doesn't look like it's going to happen this year. It's little too cold yet. We need the temperature to warm up another 10 degrees here."

He hopes to have his corn seeds in the ground within two weeks.

"Lots of time yet. If we can get our corn planted by May 10, that's sufficient time to have a full growing season, but I'm sure everybody's getting itchy for some warmer weather coming," he said.

Temperatures are expected to rise to normal levels this week, and be warmer than usual on the weekend.
