A fatal single-vehicle accident has temporarily disrupted both eastbound and westbound traffic on Highway 1 west of Calgary near Morley on the Stoney-Nakoda First Nation.

Cochrane RCMP responded to a vehicle in a field on Highway 1 around 10 a.m. on Friday, and said a man believed to be the driver was found nearby.

He is thought to have been thrown from the car after a rollover collision, RCMP said in a press release, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP did not publicly identify the man.

As of about 1:30 p.m. Friday, motorists were being asked to use alternate routes as traffic would be interrupted between Morley Road and Ozada Road.

Those travelling west can use Highway 1A at Morley Road instead, while eastbound drivers can access Highway 1 at the Highway 1X exit as an alternate route, the RCMP said.
