Fatal crash closes Highway 46 just past SLO County line

A fatal crash closed lanes and slowed traffic on Highway 46 east of the Cholame “Y” on Friday.

The crash occurred on the highway at Bitterwater Valley Road in Kern County.

All lanes of Highway 46 between Kecks Road and Highway 33 closed for around three hours Friday, CHP reported on X.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic were detoured off the highway. Both lanes reopened around 4 p.m., according to CHP.

Traffic appeared slow on Highway 33 on Friday afternoon due to the detour, according to the CalTrans QuickMap.
