1 dead, 3 seriously injured in Highway 70 crash near Yuba City. DUI arrest made, CHP says
A Marysville woman was killed and three other people were hospitalized after a wrong-way crash Monday morning on Highway 70 near Yuba City, according to the California Highway Patrol. A 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI and manslaughter.
The woman who died, who the agency did not name but said was 47 years old, was hit while driving a Toyota SUV southbound on the highway around 5:30 a.m. near the McGowan Parkway exit. A 28-year-old passenger in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with major injuries.
The agency said the crash happened after a 19-year-old Elk Grove woman driving a Buick sedan merged onto the highway using the wrong McGowan Parkway ramp.
She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, the CHP said, and was airlifted to a hospital.
A passenger in the Buick, a 19-year-old woman from Elverta, also suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital, the agency said.
The deceased woman’s identity will be released by Yuba County officials after family members are notified.
The CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office was still investigating the incident Monday afternoon. The southbound lanes of the highway were closed after the crash but reopened just before 8:30 a.m., the agency said in a post on X.
