Fatal motorcycle crash possibly caused by obstructed views, Calgary police say

Calgary police are looking into whether obstructed views played a role in a fatal motorcycle crash at a southeast Calgary intersection on Tuesday.

At about 12:30 p.m., a motorcyclist was riding west on Barlow Trail where it skirts along Albert Park and struck a car turning east on 26th Street S.E.

The 23-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene. The driver of the car was not injured.

Investigators believe a vehicle parked at the northeast corner of the intersection, as well as an advertising board, prevented the driver of the car and the motorcyclist from seeing each other.

Police say speed may also have been a factor, but alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been involved.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.
