Police investigators are trying to piece together what caused a fatal snowmobile crash near River of Ponds on Monday evening.
Port Saunders RCMP were called about a snowmobile crash around 9 p.m. The crash killed a 46-year-old man from River of Ponds.
RCMP are not releasing specific details on the incident, but Sgt. Des Mollon says weather conditions were good Monday night and it doesn't appear visibility was a factor.
"We don't believe there are any witnesses to the actual incident itself," Mollon told CBC News. "It did not take place on a roadway, but just on the edge of town."
At this stage of the investigation, it does not appear the man had been drinking, Mollon added.
Meanwhile, RCMP are reminding snowmobilers to use caution when out on their machines and to be aware of their surroundings, given quick weather changes.
