Father and Son Fishermen Rescue N.Y.C. Man Who Spent Night Treading Water Off N.J. Coastline
Peter Ordane was found on July 15 about two miles off the New Jersey coast, about a 50-mile drive from where he apparently entered the water
A New York City man was rescued by two commercial fishermen, who happen to be father and son, hours after he was swept out to sea and forced to tread water overnight.
The 34-year-old man was caught in an outgoing tide in Queens around 11 p.m. local time on Sunday, July 14, Middletown Township Deputy Police Chief Paul Bailey told NJ.com.
Around 9 a.m. local time, the father-and-son fisherman spotted the man, who later identified himself as Peter Ordane, almost two miles from the New Jersey coastline, according to ABC affiliate WABC-TV and NBC affiliate WNBC-TV.

The two men then helped Ordane onto their boat and took him to the Monmouth Cove Marina, NJ.com and FOX affiliate WNYW reported. Per WNBC-TV, the marina is about a 50-mile drive from where Ordane claimed he entered the water in New York.
“We’re assuming [the incident occurred at] Breezy Point because he had mentioned Queens, but we don’t have an exact location of where he went into the water,” Bailey told NJ.com.
Emergency crews assessed the man after he arrived at the marina, and determined he was in good condition, according to WABC-TV and WNYW.

While the Port Monmouth, N.J., father-son duo who came to Ordane’s rescue did not want to be publicly identified, authorities are praising them for their heroic actions. “It’s unbelievably remarkable,” Bailey said, per NJ.com.
The MPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
This is just the latest water-related incident in Queens in the last few weeks. In late June, two teenagers disappeared when they were swept away by a riptide at Jacob Riis Park. Two bodies were found nearby a few days later.
